MAME4Rage2 Notice
MAME4Rage2 and Primal Rage 2 have been something that I spent a lot of time on. Multiple days of sitting trying to figure out how to do the next thing to get the game to work properly, but there was always some kind of issue that caused the game to just not be properly playable. I always thought it was the Hard Drive not being read properly but it turned out to be something else. I'm happy to finally say that PR2 is fully functional in the standard version of MAME.
My whole goal with MAME4Rage2 was to try to get the game 100% fully functional to make sure it was preserved and now it has been preserved a bit better then I ever could've done. I always wondered why this game never really worked but now I know after it was fixed.
At the beginning of the PRimal Rage 2 emulation project, MAME4Rage2 was never really the end goal of this project anyways, my end goal was to get the game working send it over to the MAMEdevs and let them work on it, however I ended up taking all of the work on it at a time where I had to figure out a lot about how emulation works and what could be the root cause of the issue. I ended up working on something that I had to learn as I went and personally, while I did learn a lot about how emulators work and how hardware interacts with software, at the end I took a bit more then I could handle at the end of the day. I always had a feeling I wasn't the one to actually finish the emulation and I guess I was right, but then again, I think it's better this way anyways.
I'm happy for the MAMEDevs for finding the real issue as to why this game doesn't work and fixing a couple of other games in the process. The whole goal was to always preserve PR2 and at the end of the day, its a win win for everyone.
So whats next you might be asking, well MAME4Rage2 has ceased development, I didn't really work too much on it anyways since I never could figure out the real issue on my own anyways. What I want to do now for PR2 is to just see what lies in the code, maybe there are some new things that can be discovered.
Anyways, for those that want MAME4Rage2, just wait for MAME 0.275, MAME4Rage2 while was the first way to play PR2 was never really the best way due to all of the emulation bugs and crashing that happened due to the incorrect emulation. For those that would still like to see how Primal Rage 2 ran from Feb 2017 to Feb 2025 I will still have the download linked below for historical purposes.
